Research proposal: Racism in America
Racism is a fundamental concern in America. Thus, the appropriate definition is the mistreatment of people based on their race, national origin, color, place of origin, or religion. Racism can as well be used to represent hatred among different groups, envy, or even prejudice. In America, racism has had a great impact on society. The United States of America is made of multicultural nations; all cultures and races are represented in America. It has been facing racial issues since the Civil Rights movements until today. Despite all effort put in place by the American government and other non-government organizations, racism is still taking precedence in the United States.
In America, racism has been a major issue. The government has implemented strategies to eliminate racism, but it has not worked. Non-government organizations such as Civil Rights Movements were established to help America achieve racial equality and eliminate racial discrimination. Despite their efforts, racism still exists in the United States of America. Therefore, this research aims to examine the causes and impacts of racism in America and strategies to eliminate racism. My objective for this research is three-fold. First, I will attempt to determine the causes of racism in America. Then I will evaluate the impacts of racism in America. Finally, I will determine effective strategies to help eliminate racism in America.
Causes of Racism in America
Racism’s prevalence is everyone’s fault. The first set of people to blame is the leaders. The politicians, particularly the dominant whites, have seen racial segregation but have made little to no effort to abolish or reduce racism. Leaders are in a stronger position to enact anti-racism legislation to ensure that it is successfully applied (Banton 70). They have, though, showing no regard for bigotry. Since black population leaders are few, they cannot press for such legislation because they are shut down before they can be implemented. They are, however, partially to account for bigotry since there are other measures they can follow to ensure that legislation is in place to solve this issue. For example, they should educate people about their human rights and the potential of holding mass protests under the provisions of the constitution.
The public is the second group of individuals to blame. White people accept dominance at a young age. Racism is strengthened and reinforced as a positive practice to continue by their parents’ remarks about other populations (Dovidio et al. 119). On the other side, blacks have adopted the law into their own hands and created punitive gangs that commit racially charged crimes against whites, thereby bolstering the prevalence of prejudice. The police are to be blamed for racial discrimination, politically biased shootings, and violence against minorities. Courts are to blame for failing to enforce current legislation by imprisoning minorities without conclusive facts and rejecting minorities’ claims without regard.
Parents are the third group of individuals who react to bigotry. Kids work closely with parents from an early age. Racism is handed on from generation to generation in areas where it is widespread, and it begins at home (Garner 1510). When children discover that their parents are racist and disrespectful of other races, they justify it to themselves. Parents’ derogatory comments in front of their children about other races are very successful in propagating similar patterns within their offspring. As a result, children continue the same in other social settings, such as classrooms, and form communities with identical race representatives to effectively spread these hateful patterns toward the target race. As these children grow up, they pass down similar attitudes to their children, and bigotry remains in society, becoming a highly ingrained social phenomenon that is impossible to eradicate.
Impacts of Racism in America
Statistics expose various facets of prejudice in the United States today and serve as a rough indication of how far the nation has to address the issue. Racism as a highly rooted systemic phenomenon is visible on many levels in the United States. The first instance of discrimination is the phenomenon of racially based hate crimes. Fifty percent of the hate crimes are racial-oriented (Garner 1510). Since African-Americans and Latinos are the minority race of the United States, whites perform offenses targeting them. These occurrences are evident in police violence against people of color and other minorities, including fatal beatings and horrific shootings by targeting the suspect at close range while posing no risk to the assaulter’s defense. Minorities, such as African-Americans, commit hate offenses against whites when the chance arises as a form of retaliation. They form deadly gangs that commit horrific abuses against most Americans, such as homicides, sexual assaults, and robbery.
The existence of politically based hate groups aiming at promulgating racist ideologies is the second result of racism. Many of these organizations, such as Aryan Communities and the Ku Klux Klan, are based on white nationalism and have not dissolved since the civil rights movement when racial prejudice was abolished (Sears et al.). Surprisingly, these hate groups can be found in any state in the world. The emergence of these racialism hate groups exemplifies how insensitive American society is of each other’s inherent distinctions.
The third consequence of racism is overt prejudice against African-Americans in jobs, with those who are lucky enough to find work being paid less than their white counterparts. In 2015, whites had a GDP per capita of about $14,000, while blacks had a GDP per capita of about $12,000 (Garner 1510). It is not because whites should perform harder than blacks. Still, racial superiority is apparent in this case in which whites think they are preferable to blacks and thus warrant better wages and better employment than their equivalents. Whites have an ingrained bias towards the black community, seeing them as less knowledgeable, incompetent, unworthy of higher success, and unworthy of equal justice as their whites.
The fourth consequence of racism being the disproportionate imprisonment of some groups to others. People of color make up almost one-third of the American population, but they account for almost two-thirds of the incarceration rate. It raises whether whites are more socially moral and law-abiding people than blacks (Banton 70). The scenario exposes the racial inequalities in American society, where black groups are stereotyped, targeted, harshly prosecuted, bear enormous tax burdens, and face enormous societal costs. Such a nation cannot pretend to be civilized and must therefore acknowledge the practice of modern exploitation through bigotry.
Strategies for Abolition of Racism in America
Several steps can be taken to reduce and eventually abolish bigotry in the United States. The first step is to fully embrace anti-fascist movements that work to educate citizens about the value of eradicating racism and teach young ones how to accept ethnic and religious distinctions. This guideline helps to eradicate bigotry by educating parents on the necessity of educating their children about the benefits of empathy against racial groups, ethnicities, and religions. Parents would first raise their awareness by making relations with individuals from other ethnic groups and act as role models to their children. It would be better for parents to hold these discussions without resorting to paranoia and avoidance.
The second thing is to help pro-immigrant campaigns that seek to increase respect for people of different races. This strategy promotes egalitarianism, the idea that all individuals are equal in worth and status and, as a result, warrant equal rights and opportunities. As confronted with personal biases and compared to the common idea that all citizens are equivalent, people tend to realize that the bigotry needs to be reassessed — or even withdrawn (Dovidio et al. 119). An individual feels bad for having a discriminatory or racial conviction because it contradicts their ability to be more inclusive.
The third guideline is to promote intercultural meetings where people of various races, ethnicities, and religions can meet and learn about each other’s societies. Racism will be reduced as a result, as people will accept people of all cultures, ethnicities, and religions. Intergroup interaction helps to minimize bias and bigotry (Sears et al.). That is, talking about and actively communicating with others in their out-group (e.g., people with a different color or ethnicity) can mitigate bigotry and discrimination. Friendships would form, and prejudices would be reduced if each party was exposed to the other. It will not ensure a change of conscience, but it will make it much less difficult for people to dislike someone they understand as individuals with the same goals, desires, and values. A person discovers that the color of one’s skin does not reveal anything about the person.
The fourth initiative is to eliminate systemic inequality, such as segregation in the workplace and classrooms. It is possible to achieve meaningful outcomes by approaching the act head-on. The message should be brief and direct and delivered in an open (rather than private) context. As a result, a direct face-to-face dialogue with the individual would be more successful (Dovidio et al. 119).

Conclusion
Racism should not occur in the twenty-first century, particularly as humanity is becoming more collectively developed. The world has become an integrated environment where people from various regional locations rely on sustainability. As a result, humans should be inclusive of one another regardless of color, sexuality, physical features, or nationality. Racism remains a hotly debated topic in the United States. It is obvious on many levels, and everyone bears responsibility for its existence. It is a highly ingrained systemic issue that includes racist actions, and it necessitates strict societal policies to eradicate it. Thus, there are many approaches to eliminate bigotry, including complete funding for anti-fascist groups that help educate people on the benefits of dismantling racism, among other remedies. Teaching children from an early age how to accept ethnic and religious distinctions as well as helping pro-immigrant campaigns that seek to increase respect for people of different races.
