Why is the issue of women empowerment, “Women in science/politics” is still a debate in society.

Forces pushing women in society to venture into politics and science-related areas have significantly increased over the years, aiming to empower women in society. The historical records of women in science and politics through the years in our society describe the discrimination among women having been dominated by men. The domination of science and political-related areas has thus caused the inequalities in the responsibility that men play in the society’s contribution compared to women. The discrimination of women to play particular roles in society has thus, been a topic of concern, drawing debates on the need to empower women to take more roles and responsibilities in the related area in society.  Therefore we reflect on the possible reasons as to my women empowerment has been an issue of debate based on gender identities, gender inequalities, intersectionality and globalization.

The existing history of women in science and politics has been greatly affected by the existing believes among the individuals in the society, thus impacting them negatively. Thus, it has raised the issue of gender identity to be a topic that is debated in society concerning their identity. When individuals in the society refer to the gender identity among women, they reflect on the personal conception touching on the roles that those women play in the science field. It is clear that from the past, most of these women have been denied a chance to take leadership as society feels that they are not good enough to control those responsibilities in science and the related areas. Traditionally, women’s responsibilities were mostly assigned to take care of the families and responsibilities in the family. Due to the changing world, Women have extended to take other responsibilities and compete with men. Despite successfully ventured into such areas, their physical expression has been a major challenge controlling how those women should dress, hairstyles, makeup and social expressions, name and pronouns. It is clear that most of these women are not entitled to identity by their names and roles like men who are in the same area and taking similar responsibility. Therefore, the existing debate focuses on endowing women on the freedom for appropriate clothing of their choice as opposed to men and being identified by the appropriate title and noun on their job areas.

Secondly, gender roles have been an issue of concern in science-related fields and politics.  For a long period, women have not been entrusted in society to take particular roles associated with science and politics. Therefore, most of the roles have always been entrusted with men. In the science field, most men have dominated positions for heads of department’s innovation and leadership, leading other team members when executing duties.  Politically parties and state heads have always been led by the male candidates as the society feels that they are the most efficient and could lead them better toward meeting their goals. Due to such, women have thus consistently been discriminated exposing them as incompetent individuals to occupy those positions available and presented by men. Traditionally, the norms and beliefs across society limit women over participating in certain activities. For instance, women were not allowed to participate in political issues from the past, denying them an opportunity to exercise their duties and roles against the norms and cultural beliefs. Due to such, women have been lagging behind politically and need empowerment to ensure that they compete competitively with men in the science and political roles available. Since most of the women have not fully been empowered to compete on the available opportunities to achieve equality, it is thus a point of concern that needs to be addressed, leading to the experience present debates in the society to fill the existing gap.

The third is the issue of intersectionality, which reflects on the interconnected nature of class, race, and gender as they apply to an on given individuals or groups, creating an overlapping and independent system of discrimination. In the science field, men have always been favored by society at large to take on the responsibilities. Like from the past, society has entrusted men to run for presidential positions and top offices based on the view that women are not good enough to stand in for the positions. Thus, it has continuously discriminated against the ability of women to participate and competitively compete with a male in the areas. In the science-related areas, the class difference has clearly been expressed, with most men being ranked in higher class positions compared to women affecting the promotions, employment, and rewards to either gender. Due to the existing gap, there have thus been debates on meeting equality across individuals in the science and political position improving their status.

Lastly is the globalization we reflect at the influence of women globally and in the society at large. Historically women have not had much influence, given that they rarely participated in the national events that could influence society. Therefore, there is still an existing gap in politics and science for women that they should aim to fill. Taking an example of political positions most of the women that been in politics face challenges that range from the system structure that discriminates women giving priorities to men, economic constraints lacking enough resources to support and fund their ideas whenever they intend to implement them in the society as well as the society believes that denies women the freedom to express and acct according to their view in the society. Like in science, there are a number of women who have contributed to society and the world at large due to their innovations despite the existing norms and beliefs that discriminate against them in the field. Thus, women have been confirmed to have competed effectively, showing the ability that they can take control and do better given an equal opportunity like males in the society. Through the histories of feminists and movements that have fourth to empower women, there is still a challenge that needs to be addressed, leading to the continued debates and the equity in the opportunity in the science and political filed have not been achieved.

However, despite the existing challenges, many women have stood out in different areas of science and politics, making admirable moves that have inspired other women in society. Some of these women in history include Ana Roques de Dupery, Lillian Gilbreth, Ruth Rogan Benerito, Mollies Orshansky, Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris.

To start with, Ana Roques de Dupery created a history across the having been in early 1850. She had a passion for astronomy and education and played a role in funding the women (young girls) in colleges supporting education among women. Through her writing, the Botany of the Antilles turned to be instrumental in fighting for women’s rights to vote. In one way she participated in women empowerment pushing for the right to vote among women despite of the discrimination by men in the society resulting to the present impact that we are experiencing having a number of women rise in politics to the top potions competing with men regardless of their race, class of culture.

Second is, Ruth Rogan Benerito is known to have been an American chemist and pioneer in bioproducts. She made the achievements by saving the cotton industry through significant changes that were done by her innovation. She developed a method of harvesting fats from seeds for the use of intravenous feeding for medical patients. Through the years, the system turned to be important by creating a foundation of the system that we use today. Also, Mollies Orshansky stands out among the women in the history across the United States in a science field.  Being an economist and a statistician whose work on poverty thresholds pioneered creating a basis for the way U.S. Government defines poverty. Through, the use of the cheapest nutritionally adequate diet to calculate a cost of living expense for families of different sizes (Bonneau & Kristin, 2020). The guideline that she developed is thus used by the federal government’s official to define poverty statistically. Through her work, we can assess the impact of new policies on poor populations remaining a standard measure for new policies until now. Her influence and contribution rises more desire to contribute to the society by empowering women showing the potential outcomes back to the society like her.

Third, Lillian Gilbreth worked as an industrial engineer and psychologist at the turn of the 20th century. She is said to have been an expert in efficiency and organizational psychology through the principle that she applied to manage to be a consultant for a major corporation. She stood out to make several achievements, like being the first female engineering professor at Purdue and the first woman elected in the National academy of Engineering. Through her, she serves as a motivation for other women to enter the science-related field and change the influence that has degraded them for long enough and transform the society through equal opportunity gained in the society.

Politically, women like Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris have also made a historical remark in society and the world, showing the ability that women can take control when given support. Hillary Clinton made history, having been nominated to run for the top office in the presidential election in the United States history. Though she did not become a president, she influenced most of the people, convincing them to vote for her. Later. Kamala Harris made a significant move in political positions, having been elected as the vice president of the United States, serving presently in office. Through them, it shows the need for women’s empowerment in society to participate actively in politics and compete with men who are said to be favored in the society for a long.

It is thus clear that in society, women require an open space where they can exercise their roles and participate actively in science and politics.  Despite the challenges that they face discriminating against them, they have made remarkable achievements, and despite the challenges still facing them, it is thus negative. The associated possible causes of the challenges facing them are culture, gender role, race, and intersectionality. Among the challenges experienced are women are social challenges like civil rights and racial discrimination, where most of the women are seen by the society as not to be in a better position to lead the society. Alternatively, the culture and the perception of others that the field is male-dominated and women have few challenges.  Secondly, most of the women face economic challenges, thus turning it to be a limiting factor to empower them in political positions like the male that have resources. Last, there are intellectual obstacles that stand in their ways, thus limiting them from accessing the opportunities. Thus, the continued debate aims at creating room for negotiation and review of the challenges experienced for improvement.

Based on the debates, the aim is to empower women and the possible approach towards achieving the balance needed in the society on the political and science-related opportunity among women.  We need to strengthen women’s rights, enhancing them to participate in science and political participation by providing training for female members of political parties and parliaments and supporting the development of women’s causes. Second is enhancing the provision of skill-building and leadership training for women civil society members, women’s organization, and female journalists? Supporting women who participate in politics and post-conflict transitions supports the local efforts to advocate for legal rights that enhance participation fully in their societies’ political and economic life.

In conclusion, gender identity, gender roles intersectionality are not just the challenges that women in the society to give their contribution that may transform the society like some of them have done.  Ending the perception that we hold in regards to women that they might not make good leadership or take certain roles in the society should be debated seeking a rusting solution that will give women the support and resources needed in the science-related fields leading to transformation and achievement as some of the women in the history of science and politics ending male dominance and women discrimination.
