Introduction

Additionally, these networks create what we call a supply chain (Schroeder et al., 2013.) A supply chain refers to all resources involved in the production and distribution of goods.
The transportation model
A product is produced and sent to several destinations at the minimum cost possible in the transportation model. Each source produces a certain number of supply units, while each destination has its own fixed demand for the product. Therefore the linear programming model has its supply constraints at each source and demand at every destination. On the other hand, the supply is always equal to the demand; therefore, all constraints are equalities(Schroeder et al., 2013.) However, when the model is unbalanced, the supply and demand occur as inequalities.
The objective problem
The objective problem of any transportation problem is to minimize the shipping cost of the goods from the supplier to the destinations. Other objectives are to identify an origin that satisfies all demands and minimize the time taken. Minimize the transport cost or shipment costs required, minimize the number of origins and shipments used to satisfy the demands in all locations.
Overview
An overview of M& D chemicals is given whereby the chemicals produce raw materials sold to laundry and bathing soap manufacturing companies. Moreover, due to the rising demand for the goods in the current month, the company aims to produce 350gallons. However, a separate client has ordered 125 gallons of these raw materials, increasing the number of destinations (Anderson et al. 2018.) To process raw materials for productAatlist2 hours is required per gallon. On the other hand, to process product B, 1 hour is required for each gallon. All these gallons are required for the coming month, which has 600 hours as time set apart for production. M&D’s main objective is to find the minimum cost per schedule through the linear program. This program consists of the linear objective, which in this case is to be minimized. Additionally, it consists of constraints and variables restricted to nonnegative values.
Additionally, the production cost of 2$ per gallon for product A and 3 per gallon for product B Can be written as Min2A+3B. Net using the linear programming method entails considering the constraints where the customers demand 125 gallons will lesser than 125. Therefore, 1A≥125 and for 350 gallons 1A+1B ≥350. The third constraint will be for the time of production whereby 2A+1B≤600hours. In this case, the non-negativity constraints are A and B, which form the equation A, B≥0. Therefore, from these equations, linear programming only has two decision variables (Anderson et al., 2018.)
. In this case, the graphical solution can be used to find optimal production quantities by graphing each constraint line separately. Secondly, after graphing the constraints, one should check each side of the line to find the feasible region (Anderson et al., 2018.)
After that, the feasible regions on the graph are used to replace A and B in the equation 2A+1B≤600hours. Since A, in this case, is equated to 250 gallons, it is okay to say that product A exceeds the minimum level by 125 gallons (250_125=125.) Therefore this excess is known as surplus, whereby in linear programming, any excess corresponding to a ≥constraint is known as a surplus. It is also worth noting that LP ≥ is used as a surplus variable that can be subtracted from the left-hand side of the inequality to convert it to an equality form while ≤ it is added. Additionally, in the objective function, coefficients usually have 0 because they do not affect its value (Anderson et al. 2018.)
Optimal Solution
Optimal solutions are found at the extreme points in the feasible regions. A case where the optimal function line coincides with the constraints line on a graph results in an optimal solution. Sometimes these lines can be more than one, therefore, offering alternative optimal solutions that are good for the manager. These solutions provide the best policies which minimize the shipments\costs made to disseminate the products to the clients as per the demands. This usually means that several variables are optimal, and the manager can select the most desirable optimal solution (Anderson et al., 2018.)
